Communications and Media Officer (Maternity Cover)

The post is to be based in Yangon and opened for Myanmar Nationals and advertised nationwide.

The role:                                         This is an exciting new post with responsibility on effective internal and external communications, supporting the development and production of high quality communication materials, using diverse communications tools to increase understanding of key development issues in Myanmar and gathering stories and evidence to support and improve Oxfam’s work in Myanmar. The role will work as part of the Advocacy and Communications team under Oxfam’s Communications and Media lead.

Support to programme learning

  • Produce stories of how change happens, to improve programme quality and provide accountability to supporters and donors in collaboration with programme quality team
  • Lead documentation of programmatic learning for clear communications purposes
  • Develop and maintain an archiving system of  story, and photographic library

Internal Communications

  • Lead on production of regular internal communications materials including newsletters, stories and updates with the support from Communications and Media Coordinator
  • Carry out regular media tracking and provide updates to staff
  • Assist with the design of high quality communication materials
  • Manage translation of communications products
  • Support communications and media Coordinator and global communications and media leads to deliver communications and media related trainings
  • Provide technical support to programme staff to document and disseminate programme events
  • Cover and Back up Communications and Media Coordinator when necessary
  • Ensure programmes are using accurate brands with the support of Communications and Media Coordinator
  • Assist communications visits from Oxford, region or other countries programmes

External Communications

  • Support communications and media Coordinator to produce key communications products such as brochures, maps, presentations, information, education and communications (IEC) materials, factsheets and programme support materials
  • Manage Oxfam in Myanmar’s Facebook page with the guidance of Communications and Media coordinator
  • Manage Oxfam in Myanmar official website with the supervision of Communications and Media coordinator
  • Support Communications and Media Coordinator in building relationship with media
  • Update media contact lists
  • Represent Oxfam when needed

Delivering Communications in an emergency

  • Ensure effective and timely flows of information in case of an emergency with the support of Communications and Media Coordinator
  • Support assessment of the needs of affected communities through providing first hand evidence to relevant leads


  • A university degree or relevant skills and experiences in communications, media and development
  • At least 2 years experiences in communication and Media industry
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in communications and media
  • An understanding of development, gender issues and rights-based approaches
  • Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills, and confidence in working with people from a range of countries and cultures
  • Fluency in written Myanmar and English and good in spoken English
  • Ability to travel frequently and at short notice including to remote locations 
  • Experience working for a development agency would be an asset
  • Self-motivated and able to independently solve problems
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with various teams in country and internationally
  • Initiative and drive to achieve results
